The Kantana constituency of Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau State has commenced the process of recalling the member representing them at the State House of Assembly Yusuf Gagdi, the former Deputy Speaker of the Plateau state House of Assembly under the All Progressive Congress (APC).
The process for the recall was moved by 8 Wards chairmen who made it available to journalists and stated that they had already written to the Resident Electoral Commission about the recall process.
The group under the aegis of concerned members of Kantana Constituency of Kanam Local Government Area said they; “we are desirous to recall our serving member of the Plateau State house of Assembly- Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi (aka Babayo)”.
They disclosed that; “we the undersigned, on behalf of the constituents wish to request for the Register of Voters of the Constituency to facilitate our further necessary action.
According the letter addressed to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), through the Resident Commissioner, INEC, Plateau state, dated 19th December, 2017, the signatories of the letter from Garga, Gagdi, Dagub, Munbutbo, Kantana, Birbieng, Jom and Jarmai Wards are requesting that INEC furnish them with the voter’s register for Kantana constituency.
Information available to journalists shows that the aggrieved members of the constituency had written the letter since December last year, they are now showing more commitment.
Meanwhile, our correspondent spoke with the Member representing Kantana constituency, Rt Yusuf Adamu Gagdi on phone and he said; “those who are calling for my recall should have the knowledge that in democracy is not going to be easy to recall someone who is left with few months to election.”
“However, I advised them to go back and read the electoral guidelines before embarking on this fruitless journey.”
Gagdi called on his political detractors to know that he remains the most popular person in the politics of Kantana constituency and the most acceptable aspirants amongst them.
According to him, he said; “I stated that as an educated person I am not ready to join issues with anybody but I shall continue to deliver on my campaign promises to the good people of my constituency and not to listen the voice of cheap blackmailers.”
He explained further that he is prepare and ever ready to receive any communication from the INEC office, as he said, “I am not intimidated by their so-called threats, nobody has come to inform me of the offense that I committed as their member, so what are their reasons?
