Ex-PDP Chairman, 3 Others Arraign Over Alleged Criminal Conspiracy, Theft, Mischief

The former Ag Chairman of the People Democratic Party, PDP, Hon Yakubu Chocho, Mrs. Helen Yakubu, Adams Garba, and Sanda K  on Thursday were arraigned before an upper magistrate court 1, Kasuwa Nama in Jos North Local Government Council of Plateau State.

 

The four accused persons were arraigned under section 53,273 and, 332 punishable by the Plateau state criminal act of conspiracy, theft, and mischief by state law.

 

However, when all charges were read to the four accused persons, three pleaded not guilty while one pleaded guilty.

 

Mrs. Helen Yakubu told the court that she was in office when a carpenter by name Adams Garba arrived and demanded the keys to the Ag Director of Admin office and where she worked directly.

 

She said I directed him to where the office keys were kept and he used it to open the office and entered.

 

The principal accused, Hon Yakubu Chocho the acting Chairman of PDP, Mr. Adams Garba the carpenter, and Sanda k the security personnel were granted bail of N150, 000.00 while Mrs. Helen Yakubu to pay N50, 000.00.

 

Justice Lawal Suleiman of the upper Magistrate court 1 has adjourned the case to 29th September 2020 for hearing on the suit but slammed each of the accused persons with bail condition of N50,000.00 each totally N200,000.00 and also asked them to bring a community leader who is resident in Plateau state and two passports photographs each.

 

The Plaintiff who is the Ag Director of Admin of the PDP Mr. Ishaku M. Chuntai reported to Nigeria Police Plateau state command that on the 11th August 2020 about 8:30 am at the state secretariat of the party situated at No 20/22 Yakubu Gowon way when he arrived office to uncover that his office was vandalized.

 

The charges read that computer laptops with all information of previous State Executive Council meetings including 13 aspirants nomination forms were carted away by Hon Yakubu Chocho who brought one carpenter by name  Adams Garba to effect change on his office door.

 

The court gave the total sum of N133, 000.00 for the following items missing, Laptop, Golden pen and some of his property.

 

Hon Ishaku M Chuntai explained that he was the PA to the former Chairman, Hon Damishi Sango whose tenure prematurely truncated when the office of the director of admin became vacant sometimes in January 2017

 

According to him, the SEC approved that he should double as the acting director admin and the same the personal assistant to the former Chairman Hon Damishi Sango and then Yakubu Chocho was then the organizing secretary of the PDP were he presented a motion to the SEC to improve his Monthly salary which Sango refused that they don’t have much money.

 

He maintained that as the acting director of admin when Sango left office they SEC still ask him to continue in December 2019 and Hon Amos Gombi extended his tenure of office and that is back by official appointment letter from the PDP state chapter.

 

The plaintiff stressed that the PDP SEC-mandated him to remain in office and handle some of the administrative issues of selling nomination forms to all the intended aspirants which thirteen (13) is still missing.

 

Chuntai accused the former Ag Chairman Hon Yakubu Chocho of refusing to pay the staff of the PDP State secretariat since he was appointed as the acting Chairman.

 

Adding, he only paid one month which is on the 10th August 2020 a few hours before the expiration of the tenure, saying that he (Chocho ) claiming he doesn’t recognize me as the acting director of admin.
