ES SEMA Meets United Nations Organization In Yobe To Discuss Funding Challenges And Humanitarian Priorities

The Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) on Tuesday, 10th February 2026, convened a high-level coordination meeting with United Nations (UN) Agencies operating in Yobe at the SEMA Office in Damaturu.

The meeting was held with representatives from:

1.Food and Agriculture organization of United Nations  (FAO-UN)

2.International Organization of Migration (IOM-UN)

3.United Nations High Commision for Refuggees (UNHCR)

4.UN-Habitat,

5.United Nations Populations Fund (UNFPA)

6.World Food Program (WFP-UN)

7.World Health Organization (WHO)

The meeting was aimed at reviewing the humanitarian situation, funding landscape, and collaborative response strategies in the state.

In his welcome remarks, the ES SEMA expressed appreciation to UN partners for their continued support and reaffirmed the Yobe State Government’s commitment to addressing humanitarian needs while advancing durable solutions for internally displaced persons (IDPs).

SEMA provided a state debriefing highlighting the 2026 fiscal budget of ₦515 billion, with 5% allocated to durable solutions, and noted that the state achieved 24.06% commitments toward durable solutions in 2025—demonstrating steady progress in linking humanitarian response with long-term development.

The meeting featured candid discussions on the impact of global funding cuts on humanitarian operations. UN agencies shared updates on sectoral challenges and mitigation efforts, while SEMA reiterated the state’s readiness to support partners in mobilizing resources, including engagement with senior UN leadership and facilitation of high-level advocacy.

Participants also received updates on the UN Common Compound donated by Yobe State Gobernment with WFP and Other UN organizations already ready to move in.

As a key outcome, it was agreed that these coordination meetings will now be embedded into the monthly Humanitarian Forum, with standing agenda items on funding challenges and opportunities to ensure sustained collaboration.

The meeting concluded with ES SEMA Dr Goje leading a joint site visit to the UN Common Compound to supervise readiness and justify commitment to a coordinated and effective humanitarian response in Yobe State.
