These are the men that threw Bauchi state into jeopardy in 18 months of the so-called government of change. They are the men that ushered a new trend that signaled the death of the state. Their fault is lack of development vision and programmes. Policy and development projects abandonment are common in their time. Reader might start thinking “Who are those men that scored the political equivalent of eleven own-goals in a champion’s league Final match?
Eighteen months ago, Governor Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar took over the mantle of leadership of the peal of tourism, a state nearly crippled during the 16 years of PDP’s misrule. Less than two years of new administration, the good people of Bauchi State became disappointed with unfulfilled hopes. You will be desperate to know who are the men who contributed to bring the Administration and the state to the current precarious situation. Depending on their contribution, there are 11 of them. They are:
Education is one of the sectors that were neglected during GMA’s tenure. This happened despite the fact that the ministry was headed by Engr.Nuhu, the Deputy Governor of the state. Gidado is the most irrelevant deputy governor Bauchi state ever had. His un-presentable nature entitled him disrespects from the cabinet as the Governor delegate his chief of staff to represent him in most of the official services. Some allies from the ruling APC encouraged this belief in the hope of replacing him on the ticket come 2019. Gidado has nothing of the political drive and ambition of, say or act. His incapacity has added a lot of problems to the regime and promoted the decline.
The ambitious Chief of Staff to the Bauchi State governor rapidly moved very close to Governor Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar and soon became one of his kitchen cabinet. His influence entitled him a Governor in chief in the government house as he ties and loose especially on non-political matters. Being a novice in politics, Audu doesn’t play the game according to its rule by handling issues selfishly as he connived with Special Assistant on students matters and orchestrated a crisis in Bauchi state students’ union which only God how long it will lasts. Audu is also a proposed deputy gubernatorial candidate come 2019 as recommended by Uba Nana led committee
The pretentious chairman of the ruling party handed over the APC ticket to Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar at the controversial primaries held December 2014. Uba manages the party base on what will please the governor. He denied the gubernatorial candidates who were not satisfied with the procedure that gave GMA APC ticket to challenge the primaries legally. Despite having the party secretariat, Uba Nana always resides in government house especially when the Governor is at the office. He didn’t care to fill the cracks in the party caused by misunderstanding between Governor Abubakar and Speaker Dogara led group. Uba Nana led the controversial alleged committee charged with strategizing the GMA 2019 reelection bid. The leaked papers allegedly signed by Uba Nana recommended that all three senators from Bauchi State would not be given APC ticket in 2019 suggesting the replacements among who is Isah Hamma Misau of Bauchi Central will give a way to Uba Nana.
4.Rt.Hon. Kawuwa Shehu Damina
His disastrous tenure as Speaker of the Bauchi State House Assembly brought no development to the state. Although he heads an independent arm of the government, Damina and his house work on the instructions of the executive. Damina and his fellow members in the state house of assembly had in 2015 threatened to impeach Governor Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar for alleged embezzlement but millions of Naira bribe allegedly offered to the House calmed the move. The Damina led house has also failed to intervene into the current salary crisis in the state which left tens of thousands of workers and pensioners without two to five months salaries and arrears. A ostentatious sermon of stakeholders last April ended in fruitless.
The controversial speaker of the House of Representatives who lost influence in the House after the allegations of misappropriation labeled against him by colleagues was left with no option than to go back home and seek sympathy from his people and divert public attention from budget padding scandal. To archive this, Dogara kicked off a misplaced war against Governor Mohammed Abubakar where he led some lawmakers from Bauchi State to the Presidential Villa and APC national secretariat where they informed President Muhammadu Buhari and the party leaders that Abubakar allegedly misappropriated the bailout funds granted for the payment of arrears and salaries of workers in the state. But what a political immaturity led Dogara to disguise a personal political battle with Governor Abubakar as a public-interest struggle to get Bauchi State workers reap the benefits from the bailout funds extended to state governments by President Muhammadu Buhari? Does Dogara think that Nigerians are dunderheads? Dogara should be man enough to face his tribulations in the House of Representatives over the budget-padding scandal and leave the Governor alone.
The serving senator of Bauchi North senatorial district was called “Mater of the game” for his deceitful style of politics as many people from his zone awaits the end of his deceit game. Nazif have been in politics for the past Fifteen years but have no single achievement meant for public. It is unfortunate that in an attempt to realize his own political ambitions in Bauchi, Nazif connived with Dogara and other law makers from Bauchi State elected on the platform of APC and projected the falsehood that Abubakar allegedly misappropriated the bailout funds. Their objective seems to be that of getting President Buhari’ s ears, through vile and deceitful propaganda , to support their personal ambition against Gov. Abubakar. If Nazif will properly utilize his youthful carrier, he will definitely become one of the leading politicians in the state.
The people of Bauchi Central regretted voting an accidental politician to represent them in the red chamber. Isah Hamma, a retired police officer joined politics with great ambition and won the Bauchi Central senatorial seat on Buhari’s change tsunami. Being novice in politics, Hamma threw all his weight behind Saraki leaving his people in despair. He once threatened to support President Buhari’s impeachment if Bukola Saraki’s CCT case was not withdrawn a threat that awakened Bauchi Central youths to kick recall against him, although the recall move was unsuccessful Hamma was humiliated and stoned by angry youths in Ningi earlier this year.
His actions reminds me of a Hausa proverb “Idan basira ta karewa kare sai yabar cizo ya koma tunkuri”. Yarima a member of the federal house of assembly brought no project to his Misau-Dambam constituency. He therefore turned down to Governor Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar with baseless accusations. It will be better for Yarima to focus on his legislative duties than creating misleading allegations against GMA.
No one ever predicted the cabinet that included the likes Comrade Sabo will be drained as GMA’s administration. The veteran politician and former National Secretary of the defunct ANPP did not add any problem to the regime. He effectively applied his profession while discharging his responsibilities as media aide to Governor Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar. His affable nature created him an ovation especially from social media users. Comrade Sabo did not create any problem to Bauchi State, but scored personal own goal by working with the clueless regime.
He was compensated with commissioner for his failure to clinch APC ticket to represent Katagum constituency in the National Assembly. Ghali, a former special assistant to the immediate past deputy speaker of the National Assembly Rt.Hon. Emeka Ihedioha did not add any value to the cabinet as member of the state’s executive council and commissioner of water resources. The 27 renovated hand pumps mentioned in the one-year achievements of Governor Muhammad Abubakar created huge problems the regime.
No one will argue the fact that Governor Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar inherited huge problems from his predecessor Former Governor Isah Yuguda. Despite his pretensions of bringing the positive change to the state, Governor Abubakar disappointed the good people of Bauchi State by returning with the same old problems. To me the tenure of Governor Abubakar became disastrous for only four reasons which are; 1.His pretentious campaigns, 2.His lack of adequate knowledge about Bauchi, 3. Lack of adequate preparation before becoming the Governor of Bauchi State and 4. Lack of rapid understanding when he became the Governor of Bauchi State. During his 18 months in office, his main mistakes were unfulfilled promises, misleading and deceitful verifications of public servants and misappropriation of the bailout funds.
I doubt how they would equalize these goals in the second half to get the opportunity of playing in the second league. Even if they didn’t equalized, a reasonable consolation plus past mistakes of their opponents would simply send them to another term. But I personally doubt the match would be won with 11 players scoring own goals.
