The caretaker committee chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress in Nasarawa State, Hon. John Mamman has objected that the election of Council Chairmen and Councilors should commence before the expiration of the three-year tenure come May 2021.
He stated this while reacting to questions by selected Journalists ahead of Council Election which there was no tangible preparation for Local Government poll by the electoral umpire, Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission.
According to the APC Chairman, “as a party which, believe in internal democracy, the Local Government elections should hold before the expiry date of May 2021.
This reaction was coming at a time that some political parties in the state are losing their membership on a daily basis.
John Maman said the ruling party would ensure a level playing ground for all during the unscheduled Council poll in the state.
While commenting over the complaints that marred the registration and revalidation of new entrants into the party fold says more membership cards would be provided to qualified persons.
Adding that the exercise was in continuation of the last exercise that took place in 2014, It could be recalled that the revalidation and registration exercise in Nasarawa was marred with issues of Insufficient membership cards.
The state Governor Engineer Abdullahi Sule warned all political appointees in the state to ensure that due process is followed.
He warned party stakeholders to ensure that internal democracy is adhered to, during and after the exercise as he read the riot act to people with the intent to hijack membership cards.
