The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu has called for enhanced synergy between EFCC and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in checking the scourge of illegal cash haulage, terrorist financing and all other acts, inimical to the Nigerian economy through Nigerian border routes within the North-east zone.

Magu who spoke through the Sokoto Zonal Head of the Commission, Abdullahi Lawal, said the EFCC and Immigration Service need to collaborate closer so as to effectively check the menace of kidnapping which is driven by financial gains.

Reminding the NIS that it is statutorily part of EFCC’s board, Magu sued for closer intelligence sharing and cross-fertilisation of ideas between the two government agencies.

In his response, the Acting Comptroller Immigrations, Sokoto State, Bello Garba, stated that the NIS was open for partnership with the EFCC in the onerous task of sanitizing the Nigerian economy through effective policing of the country’s borders.

Bello further noted that the masterminds and kingpins behind the scourges of terrorism, banditry and kidnapping live in the cities and as such a closer collaboration with the EFCC would go a long way in mitigating their activities greatly.
