EFCC Grills Mohammed Kachalla, General Manager Borno Water Supply Agency

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has interrogated General Manager of Borno Rural Water Supply (RUWASA) Mohammed Kachalla over alleged abuse of office. A competent source with the anti-graft agency who disclosed this in Maiduguri, said the GM was also accused of conspiracy, misappropriation and diversion of public funds.

The Sources said the allegation was brought to the Commission through intelligence whistle blower, which was received in January 2018. According to the allegation, about N667m and N24m worth of contracts were awarded to RUWASA by UNICEF and Borno State Government in Dangote Foundation Estate for Borehole and Water reticulation respectively.

Kachalla was alleged to have received the amounts for the execution of the contracts and diverted same for his personal use Kachalla was alleged to have used the materials in the store of RUWASA that were acquired by the Borno State Government through the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs meant for the construction of boreholes in the Twenty Seven LGA across the state for contracts paid for by UNICE.

“It was further alleged, most of the contracts were executed by companies belonging to the General Manager and some of the Directors in the Agency.

“Investigation into the allegation is ongoing to ascertain the veracity of the claims against the General Manager and some Directors involved in the fraud,” a sources said.
