The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Friday Eboka has stated that the command under his supervision will not hesitate to take appropriate action against Emmanuel Ifeanyi, the Divisional Police Officer in Charge of Akpajo Police Station.

Along with an official from the state Ministry of Social Welfare, the DPO was accused of “assaulting” a member of the International Federation of Women Lawyers.

The police officer is said to have taken the members of FIDA’s social welfare officials’ cellphones, kept them for more than four hours, and threatened to prosecute them over an issue involving the retrieval of an abandoned baby.

The FIDA member had seen an abandoned baby in a nearby church and reported it to the police division.

However, there was a controversy about which institution should have custody of the baby.

According to FIDA’s state chairperson, Adata Bio-Briggs, a FIDA official requested that the baby be taken to the ministry of social welfare, but the DPO allegedly urged that the baby be taken to an orphanage home in the region.

The CP denounced the DPO’s action and apologized to the organization during a meeting with representatives from FIDA in his office in Port Harcourt.
