The Congress of Northern Nigeria Christians ( CNNC) has cautioned some purported Christian groups that are using church names for political gains to henceforth desist from such unreligious activities.
While addressing journalists on Friday in Yola, the National Youth Leader Engr. Daniel David Kadzia, expressed disappointment over the activities of some pastors who he said have abandoned preaching the gospel of God for the good of humanity.
Daniel pointed out that Christian brothers and sisters are in captivity in different parts of the country, but wondered why some people who called themselves men of God are bothered with endorsing politicians when the time for politicizing is still far.
” My group was shocked when we saw in the social media that a purported Christian group called Northeast Christians Youth Network has endorsed the former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, for president. We don’t have much problem with that, but what actions have this group taken from those Internally Displaced Persons camps?. What about those kidnapped? Are their voices shouting for government to rescue them? ,” he said.
Engr. Daniel, who cautioned men of God to be watchful and careful the way they pursue earthly materials pointed out that the image of the church is dragged into the mud while begging for leftover loaves of bread from the politicians.
He said it is not wrong for men of God to get involved in politics, but that the altar of God should not be a platform to woos politicians to the detriment of the church.
The National Youth Leader urged Church leaders to caution their members against indulging in activities that affect the image of the church.
He said that his group will continue to work towards promoting peace and the gospel of Christ for the good of humanity.
