Domestication of FOI Act Would Give Credence To Accountability -CSO

An appeal has been made to Nasarawa State Government to domesticate the Freedom of Information Act and free internet service to enable citizens to monitor the processes of Governance in the State.

Executive Director, Centre for Citizens’ Rights, Professor Adamu Abdulazeez Bako made the plea at the closing ceremony of a twenty twenty-four Social Accountability Fellowship programme in Lafia.

According to the Executive Director of Centre for Citizens Rights, Professor Adamu Abdulazeez Bako, domesticating the Freedom of Information Act would go a long way in helping citizens access Government policies and Programmes and also encouraging citizens to participate in Governance.

In an opening remark, the founder and Executive Director of Promad Foundation, Mr. Daisi Omokungbe, called on citizens to play their role in Governance and hold the Government accountable for its actions or inaction.

Operations Coordinator and Programmes Officer of Promad Foundation, Mr. Emmanuel Sani expressed optimism that the two months programme was targeted at training youths in the State on how to promote social accountability and foster effective service delivery in Governance.

Some participants interviewed said they are well equipped with skills on how to engage the Government in good Governance.

The two-month training that drew participants across the thirteen Local Government Areas of the State was organized by Promad Foundation in collaboration with the European Partnership for Democracy, the European Union, and Kofi Anan Foundation.

The event was titled “Strengthening participation, accountability in States’ Capital Projects was climaxed with panel of conversation and the presentation of certificates to participants.
