Doma-Protest
The Chairman of Doma Local Government of Nasarawa State has expressed displeasure over the way and manner protesting workers are harassing road users for the past three days.
The Chairman stated this while speaking with Journalists shortly after loyalists discovered to be supporters to the Council Chairman Exchange banters with the protesting staff who ignored the swift intervention of the state Deputy Governor, Dr Emmanuel Akabe who was locked by the protesting workers.
The striking workers who are embarking on peaceful demonstration are demanding the payment of two months’ salaries remittance of the Federal Mortgage Housing fund in the custody of the Council Chairman.
Another reason for the protest was the missing deduction from the Federal Mortgage Housing fund signed and collected by the Chairman from the source but was not remitted to the bank.
The rampaging civil servants ignore the Swift intervention of the number two citizen of the state who happened to be from Doma Local Government and was caught in the web of the protesters.
The Council Chairman, Rabo Sani in an interview with selected Journalists blamed his predecessors for the illegal employment of civil servants.
“I did not employ single civil servants but my predecessors did the mistake, employing over 500 civil servants”
He buttressed that the Local Government has barely 4000 workers genuinely employed through due process.
He described the Lucuna surrounding shortage of funds to pay workers’ salaries as a statewide problem cut across almost all the thirteen Local Governments.
On the missing Federal Mortgage Housing fund, Hon Rabo Sani said the Local Government borrowed the money to pay workers’ salaries
“Journalists, The money of Federal Mortgage Housing fund is not missing rather we borrowed the money to pay areas of staff salaries, all the Union leaders are aware of the transaction”
“What I’m saying, in essence, is that there was a consultation and agreement before we arrived at that”.
He averred that the thirteen Local Government Councils of the state needed a total of N2 1bn to settle staff two months salaries
