Doma Local Government Loses N4 Million Annually Due To Non Payment Of Tax By Olam Farms-Chairman Doma

The executive Chairman of Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Hon.Rabo Sani has expressed concern over the non-remittance of tax from Olam Farms Limited, a Singaporean rice farm situated in Rukubi community of Doma Local Government.

 

Hon.Sani gave the chat during an exclusive interview with selected Journalists at his abode in Doma Local Government identified some of the bottlenecks to bureaucracy.

 

The Chairman maintained that Olam Farms remits N4m annually for the past two years to the State while the host community is not benefitting anything from the company.

 

” What supposed to be ours is property tax but is not forthcoming”.

 

The Chairman called on the Federal and State Governments to come to the aid of the Local Government which was ravaged by flood disaster.

 

Speaking over the imbroglio surrounding the leadership of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employee, the Chairman said that he only recognized the caretaker committee members.

 

“I’m in support of what the State Assembly recognized as a law abiding citizen”.

 

Commenting on what lead to the delay in the payment of salary in Doma Local Government, the Chairman attributed Council autonomy as a major contributor.

 

“Not all Local Governments have pay their salaries, Awe,

Lafia, Nasarawa Eggon and others are yet to pay, what we normally do before the autonomy we applied what we called “be your brother’s keeper” and now we got only subvention”.

 

“We got N92 million to pay salary and our actual salary is N102 Million, after a meeting with stakeholders we all agreed to augment salary with money from VAT which is 24 Million.

 

The Chairman decried the increasing number of fake workers and pensioners in the payroll of the Local Government as a serious financial burden.

 

He started that scores were fished out of the system in the last screening exercise.

 

Hon.Rabo Sani commended Governor Abdullahi Alhaji for the completion of Roundabout- Andoma’s palace road conceived by former governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura and completed by Governor Sule.

 

The Chairman further commended Governor Abdullahi Alhaji.Sule for the award of contract for the construction of Federal Science and Technical College-Rutu road,he however applauded the former governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura for opening up of new roads in Doma.
