The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, SSAP-SDGs, Princess Adejoke Orepope-Adefulire has called for continuous empowerment of the girl child with life-long skill as well as removal of all barriers that limit them from standing at par with their male counterparts in the society.

The call was made by the Presidential Aide as the global community celebrated the International Day of the Girl Child. A statement issued by the office of the SSAP-SDGs, noted that stakeholders should make concerted efforts to dismantle all known and perceived barriers inhibiting girls from attaining their potentials.

According to Orelope-Adefulire, while the government will continue to bridge all known gaps, it has however been proven that encouraging the girl child to reach her peak requires more than the efforts of government alone, hence all hands are required to be on the deck.

On the occasion of the celebration of the International Day of the Girl Child, Orelope-Adefulire joined the UN Secretary General, António Guterres to charge stakeholders to rededicate themselves in supporting every girl to develop her skills, enter the workforce on equal terms and reach her full potential.

Orelope-adefulire also called for a united front against girl child trafficking, female genital mutilation, violence, early marriages, child labour and other harmful cultural and traditional practices noting that with the effective implementation of the Child Rights Act, the nation will stand a better chance in helping the girl child to reach her goals.

She however congratulates the girl child for the celebration and encouraged them to be more committed and dedicated in their educational pursuit.
