The immediate past Minister of Youth and Sports Barrister Solomon Dalung has called on Nigeria’s Super Falcons to put in their best performance as they kick off their Group A campaign in the 8th FIFA Women’s World Cup match against Norway tonight.
In a statement, Barrister Dalung expressed satisfaction in the team’s pre- World Cup preparations which he said will encourage the girls to make an impact at the tournament.
“I wish to commend the Super Falcons for their patriotism, selfless service and hard work while representing Nigeria at the 9th Women’s World Cup in France.
“As nine time African Champions, no team will underrate you. You have been adequately armed to do well at the World Cup through quality friendly matches organized by the Nigeria Football Federation in China, Cyprus, Spain and a two –week residential camping at the Avita Resort in Austria. This is the time to put all you have learnt to action.
“I urge you to be great ambassadors of Nigeria while in France and shun all acts capable of bringing the country’s name to disrepute. I wish you the best as you take on Norway. I believe that this team will make a bold statement at this edition of the Women’s World Cup. Good luck.”
The Super Falcons are one of only seven teams to have made it to every edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup finals since the inaugural competition in 1991.
Nigeria take on Norway at 8pm tonight at the 21,029 capacity Stade Auguste Dalaune in Reims.
