A new faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged in Plateau State following an internal dispute rocking the state’s chapter of the party.
The faction comprises 18 governorship aspirants and dozens of national and state assembly aspirants who felt dissatisfied with the party primaries.
The faction is chaired by Umar Shittien and has Amos Gizo as moderator.
In a statement yesterday jointly signed by Shittien and Gizo, the faction said it was formed to protest the “injustice” meted out to them during the party primaries.
They blamed the crisis on imposition of candidates, refusal of party officials to follow guidelines in the conduct of primaries and substitution of aspirants who were cleared for the primary elections by the national secretariat.
‘Nentawe remains APC candidate in Plateau’
Meanwhile, the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Sylvanus Namang, said Dr Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe remained the APC governorship candidate in the state.
He also dismissed the claim that Goshwe had not been issued certificate of return by the party.
Namang, in a statement yesterday, said the claim was to distract the campaign of the party ahead of next year’s elections.
