Honourable Joshua Zheyekpuwudu, the Local Government council chairman of Obi, has been arrested by the Department of State Security Service with fake thumb printed ballot papers, money, and other items suspected to be for voter inducement at the polling units.
The arrest reportedly took place at the DSS checkpoint in Tudun Kauri, Lafia, the state capital on Saturday morning.
According to eyewitness reports from our correspondent, the Council chairman was arrested along with some of his aides inside his private car at the checkpoint.
The DSS also found other items in his possession, including packets of Maggi cubes and other items that were mainly for voter inducement.
The arrest of the council chairman comes as the Governorship and Houses of Assembly elections are underway in some major places in Lafia, the state capital.
As of the time of filing this report, the DSS are yet to release an official statement on the matter, and it is unclear what charges the council chairman will face, however, the Chairman was later discharge by the secret police.
The arrest serves as a reminder of the need for credible and transparent electoral processes, free from any form of corruption or misconduct.
