● Says “Your Illegal Tenure Expires october 2025”
Our attention has been drawn to a statement from Osun APC about the resumption of duties by local government employees. We find the glorification of illegality and unconstitutional behaviour by the opposition as extremely appalling and demanding or reprehensible by all well meaning Osun people and residents.
Under what law or authority are the yes/no chairmen laying claims to the leadership of the local governments?
The court judgement that nullified their election under former governor Oyetola subsists till date as attested to in various court documents. So the yes/no chairman have no tenure to lay claim to.
Let us even assume that they had a tenure, that tenure if any expires in October 2025. That is not disputable.
If they are seeking extension of their illegal tenure, no court has granted them such. Filing of a case is not tantamount to court order. That is also a fact corroborated even by the Attorney General of the Federation in apex court fillings.
As the public know the above are nothing but the truths, under what authority are the yes/no chairmen still laying claim to the local government leadership?
Without mincing words, the conduct of the yes/no chairmen is a brazen breach of the constitution, extant laws and a repudiation of democracy in all its ramifications.
We put it to the Osun APC and those backing the yes /no chairmen that they have abandoned democracy. They have resorted to the rule of force and anarchy, they have repudiated the very foundation of our national democracy by pretending ownership of positions on no authority other than seer mouthing of brute force.
We put it to those agents of dictatorship that even the previous cover they enjoy from security agencies have been withdrawn. The police, aware of its sacred responsibility, have willingly issued a statement warning politicians to stay away from council secretariats. We commend the Inspector General of Police for this bold step.
We again call on men and women of goodwill at home and abroad to pay solemn attention to the crass impunity, grave violation of the law and constitution in the handling of the Osun local government crisis. We remind the world that a daring rape of democracy is happening within Osun local government system.
In 2026, we call on the Federal Government to review its strategies and approach to the Osun Local Government crisis. The matter has become a big dent which is now attracting local, regional and global attention.
We task the Presidency to call those displaying illegality as robe of honour to order. We encourage the Presidency to call to order those dropping its names to stifle Osun grassroots development in the name of politics.
We appeal to all lovers of democracy in critical capitals of the world to pay an activated attention to this current rape of democracy in Osun state South West Nigeria.
