The Provost, College of Education Akwanga, Nasarawa State, Reverend Jonathan Thani Wakili has decried the high rate of the monthly light bill by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company.
In an interview, Reverend Thani said the institution is spending a huge amount of money on the payment of the light bill, which he says at times exceeds N4,000,000 monthly.
He, however, opined that the charges rise up to N5.2 Million, he explained that when students resume from break the bills went high.
Speaking on attending seminars and workshops as the Provost of the College, buttressed that he jettisoned some of his foreign trips due to paucity of funds.
“I sacrificed conferences, workshops, and seminars to Rwanda and other countries due to paucity of funds”.
When asked about the shortlisted workers newly employed by the State Governor, the Provost maintained that a total of 380 staff comprised of mostly lecturers and Nonacademic staff benefited from the Governor’s olive branch.
“The actual number of newly employed staff is 380, but we accord emphasis on engaginging staff who have put in their best for a period of seven to eight years.
Stating that in the ongoing employment, every Local Government Council will be fully given recognition.
While commenting on the resumption of students, Reverend Thani Wakili urged students to resume on time to enable them to meet up ahead of this year’s election and census.
“We want them to resume early so as to witness the convocation of the institution which was scheduled to take place on 21st January 2023.
