Chairman Correspondent Chapel NUJ, Polycarp Auta promotes Media/Military relation with one day training to Journalists

In an effort to build collaboration and synergy in promoting objective and balance reporting between the media and military relation in Nigeria towards curtailing fake reporting on conflict zones ,the Chairman, correspondent Chapel, NUJ, Plateau State Chapter Mr Polycarp Auta has disclosed desire to filter concrete blueprint on the occasion of One-day media training for Journalists in Jos.

Auta stated this during the opening speech to congratulate Journalists and military for their well deserved function in safeguarding the unity of oneness.

He said, the aim is to foster a responsible media environment that respects both the need for transparency and the necessity of security.

Polycarp Auta further said that training is to expose media to some ethical and security considerations, as well as the protection of sources while reporting military operations.

According to him, the exercise will enable media to understand the nexus between free press and national security, how to build public trust, the structure of the military, and its legal frameworks.

“We have gathered as media professionals to explore the critical balance between journalistic integrity and military operational security.

“The choice of the theme of this training, “Ethics and Security Considerations in the Media Coverage of Military Operations,” is not just timely, but it gives us an opportunity to garner more professional insights”he said.

He stressed that, “as journalists, our role is vital in informing the public while navigating the complex ethical landscapes”.

“We will discuss best practices for reporting in conflict zones, the importance of understanding military protocols, and the ethical implications of our coverage. Together, we aim to foster a responsible media environment that respects both the need for transparency and the necessity of security”.

Polycarp Auta seized the opportunity applaud the GOC, 3 Div and Commander, OPSH, Maj.-Gen. A.E. Abubakar, for supporting and accepting to deliver a keynote address in this training.

We want to thank our resource persons, erudite scholars, media experts, and senior military officers, for accepting to share their avalanche of knowledge with us.

We also want to thank heads of government MDAs and friends of the media on the Plateau, for accepting to be part of this historic event.

He, therefore, urge participants to engage in thoughtful discussions that will enhance media skills toward impactful reporting.
