Canada Earmarked $13.7 Canadian Dollars To Improve Women And Girls Health In Bauchi

An NGO Plan international has earmarked $13.7 million Canadian Dollars towards reduction of maternal and neonatal mortality mortality among vulnerable women and children ‎in Bauchi state.

The Country Director of the Project Dr Husseini  Abdu, disclosed this yesterday at the formal lunch of the project called Bauchi opportunities for responsive neonatal and maternal health (BORN)

He said “the Global Affairs Canada has earmarked   $13.7 million Canadian Dollars into the project for a four and half years 2016-2020 in Bauchi state.‎”

According to him, BORN ‎is a gender transformation that would contribute to the reduction of maternal and neonatal mortality among vulnerable women and newborns in targeted areas.

He said that over 2 million people which included women and adolescent would benefit from the project in the state.‎

The National Programme Manager in Bauchi Nasiru Mohammed stressed that BORN will be implemented in 10 ‎of the 20 local Government Areas of the state were maternal newborn and child health are worst.

The LGAs are Bauchi, Ningi, Dass, Jama’re, Katagum, Misau, Kirfi, Toro, Darazo and Gamawa

Mohammed explained that the project will integrate gender quality in to 3 cross strategies to improve conditions of women and girls According to him, the three strategies are  strengthening gender responsive and adolescents, engaging men and boys maternal neonatal health and empowering women and girls to increase their decision making.
