Members of the Plateau State House of Assembly, on Tuesday impeached the Plateau House of Assembly Deputy Speaker, right Honourable Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, over loss of confidence.
House majority leader Hon. Henry Yenkwap, read a text of communication wherein; it said members of the House past vote of no confidence against Hon. Gagdi.
The ousted deputy speaker said he saw it coming, as he said; if say I did not see it coming it means that I am not a politician.
According to the majority leader 18 out of the 24, members signed the document.
Hon. Yenkwap, said while fielding questions from journalists, said that the issue of vote of no confidence arose from many issues on the ground.
“It is constitutional if members said, they are passing vote of no confidence, and they have approached me with a document that they have passed vote of no confidence, and it encompasses a lot of issues,” he said.
Yenkwap gave none of the alleged reasons, besides saying, “it was a vote of no confidence.”
“There are so many things, we just don’t want to open up,” he added.
The ousted deputy speaker RT. Hon. Gagdi, told journalists that, he saw it coming from the onset.
“From the day I was elected I saw it coming, and I knew that I would be hunted anytime any moment, after all when I entered the house of Assembly I didn’t envisage that I am going to be the deputy speaker, in that circumstance I have it at the back of my mind that I can be remove at any time, ” he said.
According to Gagdi, he holds no grudge against any one, being the decision of the house, adding the; “good thing about it is that there was no good reason attached to the removal,” and, “I believe in destiny,
The communication was read by majority leader on floor of the house sitting against the Deputy Speaker Hon Yusuf Babayo Gagdi who was impeached on Tuesday by the majority votes during the plenary session.
The ongoing rumours of impeachment of the Rt ,Hon Peter Azi was alleged by the public opinion but the House express their anger of impeaching one of the very active and visionary leader.
It would recalled that the Deputy Speaker who defected early last year in 2016 to the All Progressive Congress (APC) by dumping the People Democratic Party (PDP) with thousands supporters in the whole Kanam LGA ”
However, after reading the letter no grounds were given for why the Deputy Speaker was impeached by voice votes.
