- Declares Wednesday Eid-el-Fitri day in Nigeria
The Sultan of Sokoto and President General of Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has said that the Ramadan fasting continues tomorrow, July 6th due to non-sighting of the moon.
The Ramadan month lasts 29–30 days based on the visual sightings of the crescent moon.
According to the President-General of the organisation, and Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar in a statement stated that the new moon of Shawwal had not been sighted anywhere in Nigeria.
He therefore enjoined muslims in the country to fast on Tuesday and observe the eid prayers on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the federal government had already declared Tuesday and Wednesday as public holidays for the celebration.
