Beware of Pension Commission Boss, Group Counsels Magu

A public watchdog group, Alliance for Public Probity has advised the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu to beware of any further contacts with the Director General of the National Pension Commission, Ms Chinelo Anohu-Amazu who has visited the EFCC boss twice in the last few months.

In a statement signed by its Anti-Corruption Coordinator, Ibrahim Salihu, the group alerted Magu that the pension commission boss had consistently disobeyed several court orders demanding reversal of unlawful takeover of the First Guarantee Pension Limited five years ago, warning that the EFCC boss should not allow the pension commission to use him in the many shady happenings within the commission.

According to the statement, “We advised Alhaji Magu to beware of the frequent visits of the PENCOM boss. She visited Magu on March 14th and on August 28th of this year. We learnt she is seeking support to cover up her many wrong doings at the commission. We know she is seeking support to continue the illegal takeover of First Guarantee Pension Limited against due process and subsisting court orders.

“For the past five years, PENCOM had taken over the pension fund, illegally changed the share structure and illegally appoint a new board while also for the past five years refusing to call annual general meeting. We are shocked that PENCOM boss is allowed to continue her impunity even under a government of integrity led by President Muhammadu Buhari. We are in shock that despite all records of mismanagement of pension fund, wasteful expenditure and illegality of various sorts, the PENCOM boss is still allowed to continue her illegality and brazen abuse of office.

“Because we know Magu is doing his best in the anti-corruption war, we think we should warn him against romancing with that PENCOM boss. The acting Chairman has enough issues at hand than to rise in support of a woman who was actively part of ex-Jonathan administration that destroyed the national economy. While we trust Magu, it is important for the commission to keep that woman at arm’s length so as not to soil the white cloth of the anti-corruption agency.

“Nigerians are watching. They have all the information about the five year long mismanagement at the pension commission. The anti-graft agency should watch it. Not all visitors deserve the type of red carpet the Magu team rolled out for the controversial pension commission boss” ,the statement said.
