Governor Hyacinth Alia has praised Benue State workers as the driving force behind the state’s ongoing transformation, using the 2026 Workers’ Day celebration to spotlight their role in reshaping key sectors.
Speaking on Friday, May 1, 2026, the governor addressed workers across Benue and Nigeria, calling this year’s May Day a moment to celebrate their labor and underscore their centrality to his administration’s reform agenda.
He framed the occasion not just as a holiday, but as recognition of how Benue’s workforce is powering efforts to transform the state and improve livelihoods for residents.
Governor Alia credited the entire state workforce for what he described as visible transformation across critical sectors of Benue’s economy and public service.
He called workers “important stakeholders” in the delivery of SACHIIP, the administration’s seven-point development blueprint guiding policy since 2023.
SACHIIP covers Security of Lives and Property; Agriculture and Rural Development; and Commerce and Industry as its first three pillars.
The plan also prioritizes Human Capital and Social Development; Infrastructure and Environment; and Information & Communications Technology (ICT)
Completing the framework is Political and Economic Governance, which the governor said depends heavily on an effective, motivated civil service.
Addressing worker welfare directly, Governor Alia described it as a “necessity for better performance” rather than a privilege.
He assured that his administration will keep worker welfare as a major priority, with friendly policies designed to enhance wellbeing and build capacity.
The governor extended specific praise to labour unions in Benue, crediting their cooperation and support for boosting productivity across ministries and agencies.
He closed his May Day message by wishing all Benue workers a memorable celebration, acknowledging their sacrifice and commitment to the state.
