The Bauchi Divisional headquarters of the Nigeria Railway Corporation said it had embarked on massive awareness campaign to sensitise the people to the corporation’s train services.

The Bauchi Division Manager, Malam Ali Miko, told newsmen in Bauchi that the campaign became necessary to enlighten the public on the advantages of train transportation and other services available in the system.
He commended President Goodluck Jonathan for revamping train transportation, which he said, had suffered neglect over the years.
“People need to be aware that train is back on the rail. They need to also know the range of services available and at what cost.
“As such we want to inform the public that Gombe–Bauchi-Kafanchan-Kaduna intercity train services with air conditioned coaches’ commenced operation last week Tuesday.
“We have commenced the operation with four coaches, and four wagons that would convey passengers and freight from Gombe to Kaduna,” he said.
He said the train with both economy and first class sections were designed with air conditioners and television screen to ensure passengers’ comfort, particularly those travelling long distances.
He said that transport fee from Gombe to Bauchi in economy class was N450.00, while it will cost N700 in first class.
“It will also cost a passenger N1,050 and N1,650 from Bauchi to Kafanchan in economy class and first class respectively,” Miko said.
He also said that the railway communication system had been upgraded with modern telecommunication technology facilities for effective communication.

He called on the people to take advantage of the train transport services to travel cheap, safe and pay less for the movement of their goods.
