Bauchi Senator Tackles Media For Overheating The Polity

Masoyi Lusa

The Senator who is representing Bauchi South in the Senate at the National Assembly, Senator Ali Wakili, has asked some section of the media in the country to toe a path of honour, rather than engage in over heating the polity in their desperate attempt to drag the name of president Buhari and the Senate President Senator Bukola Saraki to the mud.

The senator made the warning in a chat with universalreporters247.com in Bauchi, said this followed the recent media reports that Buhari and Saraki are in a head collision course over the refusal of the nation finance permanent secretary Anastasia Nwoabia to appear before the Senate over gray issues of the past involving the ministry.

Wakili added that those media reports which are intended to drag the images of Buhari and Saraki to the mud is intended to settle perceived scores thereby acting on the script of some errant in the nation politics as he added that there has never been a clash between the duos for no course.

According to Wakili, the Nigerian constitution had clearly spelt out the obligations of Senate President and that of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, but wondered why some section of the media reported that the personalities are on collision course over the refusal of Nwoabia to appear before the Senate and attributed same to presidential connection.

“There is no time that Buhari and Saraki had any quarrel because what was reported is a great fallacy of the highest order as both of them respect each other regarding their offices and remember their duties is geared towards the yearning and aspirations of the Nigerian electorates,” said Wakili.

The senator regretted that people should not always rush to the media with intent to rubbish the integrity of their elected leaders just because their errant’s did not make it on other hand, but should be ambassadors of effecting the change, APC as a party coins for direct bearing for Nigerians.

Wakili admonishes that instead of concentrating on igniting fire between Buhari and Saraki, the users of such section of the media should initiate positive ideas capable of curbing the current security challenges and describe the media reports as fallacy and uncalled for solid political development and unity among Nigerians.

He noted that the role of the media is among others to inform, entertain and to educate the public, but regret that recent events has justify a gradual departure from the roles it plays and charge media executive not to act the script of their publishers.

The Senator also lamented on the perception among Nigerians that Senators in Nigeria have considerably enjoyed huge and palatable annual budgets, but rhetorically debunks the claims saying it’s wrong to state that Senator annual budget stands at 25 percent of the nation’s annual budgets.

He maintained that a Senator of Nigeria’s monthly salary is just about N1.4 million which includes all other allowances and therefore urges Nigerians not to disabuse their minds on the campaign of calumny from some quarters that Senators enjoyed huge part of the nation’s annual budget.
