The first lady and wife of the Bauchi State Governor, Hajiya Dr Aisha Bala Mohamed has disclosed that the state recorded a total number of 168 rape cases in the year 2020.
Dr. Aisha made this known recently when she received in audience, officials of OXFAM Line Project during their campaign rally Against Gender-based violence at the government house Bauchi.
Represented by the wife of the State Deputy Governor, Mrs Aishatu Baba Tela, the First Lady said Bauchi State Government is partnering with some international organization such as MEDA, Human Rights Commission, and the security agencies to identify ways of addressing the menace.
According to her, as a result of the concerted effort, Bauchi only recorded a total of 68 this year, urging women to ensure proper care of their wards and be vigilant in order to avoid any kind of abuse.
She said a committee on MGDS has been constituted and has been working day and night to fight FGBV in Bauchi state.
On his part, Mr. Samuel Lashom who is the Leader of the OXFAM Line Project said OXFAM is an independent organization from Canada that about 15,000 Nigerians have benefited from, most especially Bauchi citizens.
“We are campaigning by saying no to any Gender Based Violence against women such as female genital mutilation (FGM) domestic and sexual abuse of women and girls”, he said
Lashom called on the Bauchi State Government under Governor Bala Mohamed to join hands together and fight the menace in the state.
