Bar Labaran Magaji who is challenging the senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC)in Nasarawa west senatorial district Arc. Shehu Tukur has set all machinery in place by approaching the apex court to challenge the verdict of the appeal court which declared the holder of the ticket.

It could be recalled that on February 2, 2022, the federal high court sitting in Lafia nullified the primary election of Nasarawa west senatorial district and ordered a fresh primary election within two weeks.

Magaji in a statement urged his teeming supporters to be calm as well as to conduct themselves.

According to the statement, “arising from the recent judgement of the court of appeal Makurdi Division in a pre-election case between Arc. Shehu Tukur versus  Bar. Labaran Shuaibu Magaji who upturned the verdict of the Federal High Court sitting in Lafia, as a lawyer and Minister in the temple of Justice.

I have examined and carefully reviewed the judgement in consultation with my team of legal experts and other eminent personalities within and outside the state, I have come to an inevitable conclusion that, the judgement if left as it is will constitute a threat to democracy and also have the capacity to rubbish our internal democratic process.

The judgement will further defeat the whole essence of our struggle to strengthen our internal democracy, hence the need to take an urgent step within the ambit of the law. it is in the light of the above and other reasons in the interest of the public that we have come to the conclusion to appeal to the Supreme Court of Nigeria and I so do to test the judgement for the purpose of clearing any doubt and to guarantee fairness in our electoral system.

Consequently, I, Barr Labaran Shuaibu Magaji (Matawallen Toto) call on my teaming supporters, loyalists and well-wishers to be calm, law-abiding and continue to be loyal to our party, the All Progressive Congress (APC) while the law takes its natural cause as our hope is still very much alive, only time shall tell”.
