Bandits have attacked Nahuce community in Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, killing one resident and abducting 27 others, most of them women, including pregnant and nursing mothers.
Residents reported that the attackers stormed the community late Sunday night, shooting sporadically and forcing villagers to flee as they carried out the abductions.
Sources in the area said the victims were taken into the surrounding forest by the gunmen, leaving families and community members in panic over their fate.
The latest attack comes barely three months after a similar raid on the same community, during which 23 residents were kidnapped. According to locals, only three of the victims from that earlier abduction have returned so far.
With the latest incident, residents say nearly 50 members of the community are currently in captivity.
Community members lamented what they described as the continued vulnerability of villages in the area, saying repeated attacks have occurred despite persistent calls for stronger security presence.
They also questioned what urgent steps authorities are taking to secure the release of those abducted and prevent further attacks on rural communities in Zamfara, a state that has been one of the epicentres of banditry in Nigeria’s northwest.
