Aviation Minister’s Woes Mount As Rep Orders Probe

Aviation Minister Stella Oduah’s woes have worsened after members of the House of Representatives set up a committee to probe the Ministry’s alleged purchase of bullet-proof cars valued at N250milion.

The House Committee on Aviation was specifically instructed to submit the report of its findings within one week, following which the House will discuss it.

The probe is a sequel to a motion All People’s Congress (APC) legislator, Samson Osagie, brought to the floor under matters of National importance.

Zamfara APC representative, Shehu Gusau, secoded the motion.

Osagie had asserted in the motion that investigations into the purchase of the BMW to the tune of $1.6million were necessary as this amounted to wasteful spending.

“Given the poverty and unemployment ravaging our dear nation and its people, it will be absurd, unthinkable and indeed unpatriotic for an agency of government to connive with its political head to incur such expenditure simply for the comfort and safety of one public officer,” the APC legislator said.

“Over the past four weeks, the nation has been inundated with the news of the purchase of $1.6m BMW bullet proof cars by the National Civil Aviation Authority for the Minister of Aviation,” added Osagie.

He observed that “the furore generated by the said matter have left tongues wagging as the sincerity and objectivity of this administration’s stand on fight against corruption as again re-emphasized by the President’s nationwide broadcast on October 1.”

Oduah has come under fire recently following a spate of air crashes.
