Ex- vice president‘s daughter promises to translate private sector experience into health sector transformation

Fatima Abubakar, Commissioner of Health on Monday vowed to translate her divers private sector experience into health sector transformation in the state.

Abubakar gave the assurance while addressing staff of the ministry on her assumption of office as a newly sworn in commissioner in the state ministry of health in Yola.

Abubakar, who is the daughter of former vice president Atiku Abubakar, said she was aware of the dilapidated structures and ill- equip health infrastructure in the state.

According to her, I have been informed of outstanding staff claims and shortage of skilled manpower in the ministry.

She assured that her office would collaborate with development partners to address such inherent challenges confronting the sector.

“I have been briefed by the Permanent Secretary on some challenges being faced by the ministry, ranging from dilapidated and ill-equipped health infrastructure across the state.

“I have been also informed of the outstanding staff claims and shortage of skilled manpower as well as shortage of office accommodation for staff of the ministry and development partners.

“I am more than ready to blend my diverse experiences in the private sector with yours and our development partners towards achieving our desired goals in this direction.’’

The commissioners said her vision was to build a standard infrastructure that could stand a taste of time in the state.

Abubakar appealed to the staff of the ministry not to be discouraged by the situation they have found themselves at the moment.

According to her, my leadership is determine to ensure that the slogan of `change’ was realized at all levels.

“I want to emphasize that my modus operandi will be to build a standard infrastructure that can stand the taste of time, synergy, collaboration and cooperation among the stake holders.

“We will strive to secure and sustain a highly vibrant, skilled and motivated manpower for the health sector.

“My leadership of the ministry and indeed Gov. Jibrilla Bindow’s administration in general are determined to ensure that the slogan of change of our great party is realized at all levels.

“This is because we have the solutions to the current problems.’’

Earlier, Alhaji Mahmud Abubakar, Permanent Secretary of the ministry urged members of the staff to support the new commissioner to achieve her vision of transforming the sector.

Mahmud eulogised the staff of the ministry for their cooperation during his leadership, urging them to extend the same to the commissioner.

He pledged the total loyalty of the ministry and commitment to serve the present administration in general and the commissioner in particular to achieve the vision of the administration.

Abubakar, reported at 10. 15 a.m at the Ministry of Health at the state secretariat, Abubakar is the first commissioner to assume office.

She is among the 22 commissioners who were recently sworn in by Gov. Jibrilla Bindow of Adamawa.
