Asari Dokubo Reveals Wike has prepared list of new LG administrators for Ibas

Chief Asari Dokubo, who is the Da-Amakiri Tubo and Amanyanabo of the Elem Kalabari Kingdom, claimed that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, had prepared and was ready to submit a list of new Administrators for the Local Government Areas in Rivers State to the sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (retd), to announce.

Dokubo, in a viral video, claimed that the names of handpicked local government administrators had already been compiled, thereby raising fears of an orchestrated attempt to subvert the will of the people.

He warned that such an undemocratic action could further plunge the local government system into more crisis as well as setting a dangerous precedent for an executive overreach.

Dokubo also alleged that the Administrator, Admiral Ibas (retd), was planning to announce the new Council Administrators in spite of the clear provisions of the Constitution and the judgement of the Supreme Court that voids non-elected representatives at the Third tier of government.

The Supreme Court specifically upheld the autonomy of local governments in the country.

The move to appoint new administrators for the local government Councils in Rivers State has raised serious concerns over the erosion of democratic processes and principles.

Dokubo said that if implemented, the plan would not only defy the Supreme Court’s judgement but would also clearly demonstrate an affront on the democratic rights of the Rivers State people.

In a viral video online, Dokubo also alleged that the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike had captured the presidency and had gone ahead to prepare a list of his loyalists as appointees for Ibas.

Dokubo also claimed that Wike had equally captured the judiciary and security agencies, adding, however, that the Ijaw people were restraining themselves from fighting back because of the danger the former governor was inviting.

Dokubo said: “If the Ijaw people are allowed, it will embolden the Southeast and spiral out of control.”
