APC Laments Jang Agenda Of Planning To Use Benue Indigent To Rig Elections By Yakubu Busari ,Jos
The All progressive Congress APC,Bar. Simon Lalong the flag bearer in Plateau state has lamented plan by the Jang administration to bring Benue indigent as INEC commissioner to rig the forthcoming elections.
Lalong told Journalists when he appeared before a Media Forum organized by the correspondents’ chapel of the NUJ plateau state chapter that Jang administration has been greeted with irregularities, including lack of accountability, misplaced priority and reckless spending of state resources.
He has even berated his colleagues in the state house of Assembly for their inability to check mate the excesses of the chief executive of the state.
According to him, Plateau desires an inevitable change from the hands of what he termed, a crude and lawlessness government of Jonah Jang and give it to a leader that will restore Justice, Peace and ensure equitable distribution of state resources to citizen of the state.
Lalong declared that for the forth coming elections had in his bid to wrestle power from PDP advances approach to different communities including the Jos branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to seek support for the seat of Governor of Plateau State in the April 11 governorship election.
“It is a matter of fact that this is a state where governance is reduced to a family enterprise where the governor’s son is holding double portfolios as Special Adviser to the governor on special Duties and at the same time is the commissioner on Land and survey without passing through any screening from the House of Assembly and nobody has raised any question over that”.
“It is also very disturbing that, the state Assembly is reduced to nothing, when allegations of N81bn SURE-P money was brought before the house for investigation the same Jang son went to court to obtain an injunction to seal their mouth from opening their mouth and the house could not do anything over it”.
“Now, the governor has spent well over N8bn on federal roads which president Jonathan during the campaign visit to Jos said he has paid back the morning, yet it is not reflected in the state budget, and he still went and obtained a soft loan from Islamic Bank and other banks amounting to over N400bn and the law makers are not talking”.
“As a matter of fact, Plateau does not need any new government house, but the Man went and spent over N15bn for the construction of new government house while Pensioners, Teachers Civil servants are being owed between five and Eight months of their entitlement”.
Most annoying is that the state university that was established by the then Dariye. Administration has never graduated any sect due to the bad leadership of the governor, he first closed down the university for a whole year, if not the intervention of my deputy, Prof. Sonny Tyoden who absorbed them to the state UniJos before they graduated.
The Man keep changing VCs without any reason but hate, now the problem is that those that supposed to be graduating are facing big problem of graduation, because even if the graduate they can’t go for service because non of the courses has been accredited”.
He however stressed that when elected as the governor of the state he will use his wealth of experience as a lawmaker to transform the state into enviable and cherish heights.
The director of Research for Simon Bako Lalong and Muhammadu Buhari support coordinator in Plateau state, Dr. Danlami Lenkop has said that despite all necessary machineries put in place by the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC), the All Progressive Congress(APC) is still not satisfy with the way and manner some Resident Electoral Commissioners were posted to some states.
Dr. Danlami Lenkop alleged that a situation whereby the ruling Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) had influenced the posting of INEC Commissioners in Benue and Plateau desires more explanation than it was seen on the surface,
The research and support coordinator for the APC in Plateau state stated that, what is more worrisome was the composition of the senior administrative team of the INEC office in Plateau which was made up of people from Benue state.
He expressed that his party was reliably informed that such constitution of the INEC staff was match made by some influential figures from above to come and do a hatchet job to favour the ruling party(PDP) in the state.
He also expressed concern that the recent pronouncement by the Inspector General of Police(IGP) Abubakar was against the principles of protecting votes by individual electorates after they have casted their votes to avoid their votes been manipulated. He pointed out that if voters will not be allowed to wait and ensure that their votes are counted, such will give room for manipulation of election results by the power that be to their own advantage.
Dr. Danlami Lenkop however, stated that, so far, the steps taken by the INEC is commendable especially in the area of PVC distribution pointing out that 75-81 percent of PVCs are been collected by eligible voters in Plateau state.
He called on the national chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega to prevail against all odds to ensure absolute transparency of free and fair elections.
According to Dr Danlami, APC will not accept any injustice during and after the election adding that the party is ready to challenge such trend in the constitutional court of law.
