As prelude to its 100th anniversary, Anglican Communion, Akpugoeze Archdeaconry, Diocese of Aguata, Enugu State has presented awards to centenarians.
It will be recalled that the church will mark the 100 years of Anglican Church and Christianity in Akpugoeze in November this year.
According to the Chairman, Centenary/Inauguration Planning Committee, Dr .Onwurah Augustine Emenike, the programme was designed to celebrate those who have attained 70 years and above.
Emenike also said that the essence of the award ceremony is to prepare and excite the minds of the people for the major event.
He said that during the November programme that personalities who have made significant contributions to the church would be honoured.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Publicity Committee,Tobias Chukwukerue Amara said that programme was targeted at creating awareness for the November event, raising funds, and evangelism, among others.
He thanked those who contributed to the success of the ceremony and urged every hand to be on deck for the success of the November ceremony.
Among the centenary award recipients is Venerable Lawrence Nwekemezie Enemo (rtd), the first Archdeacon of Oraifite Archdeaconry. Venerable Enemo was also the first indigenous Archdeacon of Akpuigoeze Community and was instrumental to the establishment of a scholarship scheme for the whole pupils of Akpugoeze schools in 1964.
