The Mazi Organization (TMO) has announced that Dr. Chima Matthew Amadi will contest both the Owerri Zone Senate seat and the Imo State governorship in the 2027 elections.
The announcement was made on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, during a press briefing held at Golden Vista Hotel in New Owerri, Imo State.
The briefing, led by the Director General of TMO, Chief Henry Onwukwe, was convened to clarify growing public discussions about Amadi’s political direction ahead of the 2027 elections. Members of the Action People’s Party (APP) and journalists were present.
Amadi, who was expected to speak at the event, was unavoidably absent. The organization, however, said he would address the media at a later time and provide further details about his plans.
Speaking on his behalf, Onwukwe said the decision followed careful consultations and planning.
“This decision is not out of uncertainty. It is based on clear planning and a strong commitment to building a winning movement,” he said.
He explained that Amadi will first contest the Senate election in January 2027 before running for governor in November 2027 under the APP.
Onwukwe described the move as a deliberate strategy to strengthen political structure across the state.
“This is not a contradiction, but a coordinated effort to build momentum and expand our reach ahead of the governorship election,” he stated.
He added that contesting the Senate seat first would help deepen grassroots support and improve party unity across the 27 local government areas.
“It gives us the chance to connect with the people at every level and put a strong structure in place before the next phase,” he said.
On the importance of the Owerri Zone Senate seat, he noted that it offers wider political visibility and engagement at the national level.
“It provides a platform to represent Imo interests more broadly and build relationships that are important for future leadership,” Onwukwe added.
He urged supporters and residents of the state to understand the plan as a step-by-step approach toward a larger goal.
“This is about building steadily and staying focused on delivering better governance for Imo State,” he said.
The organization also encouraged continued support and participation from party members and the public as preparations toward the 2027 elections progress.
