All Tertiary Institutions In Plateau State To Resumes Strike Soon By Yakubu Busari,Jos

Joint Unions Of Plateau state Owne Tertiary Institutions, JUPTI may resume strike following what it considers nonchalant attitude of the state government in addressing the plight of lecturers.

The leadership of the union at a press conference in Jos Tuesday said they are beginning to sense some fishy deal among government officials and would be compelled to take an unpalatable Stand to press home their demand.

Chairman of the joint union, Victor Dawurung told journalists that, “we feel short-changed and undermined. This scenario will guide us in our future relationship in the industrial matters and we should not be blamed for any actions we take”.

He said since May, 2013 when the union suspended their prolonged strike due to the personal intervention of the head of service an the special adviser on special duties, all the promises made have been reneged.

“The issues have been perfidiously frustrated despite several efforts to get to those who intervened to fulfil their promise, even with written communications failed. Their prolonged silence is a demonstration of lack of commitment and an engagement of political chicanery.

Dawurung reiterated that section 28 which seeks to repeal the law establishing the CAST Kurgwi is tantamount to wrong legislation, adding, “the new bill has not undergone the due process of legislation where a public hearing will be conducted to get inputs from stakeholders and members of the public”.

He condemned the laws establishing the Plateau state college of Arts ,Science Technology and the Solomon Lar University ,Bokkos are two separate laws passed in 2000 and 2006 respectively.
