Alia Swears In Justice Ende, Pledges Continued Support For Benue Judiciary

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, swore in Hon. Justice Christine Terlumun Clement Ende as a Judge of the Benue State High Court. The swearing-in ceremony was held at the Old Banquet Hall of the Benue State Government House in Makurdi.

Describing the appointment as a major step forward, Governor Alia said it marks a significant milestone in the administration of justice in Benue. He noted that the addition strengthens the state’s judicial capacity at a time when efficient and timely justice delivery is crucial.

In his address, the governor highlighted Justice Ende’s extensive background. He said her elevation recognizes a distinguished career of over three decades spanning legal practice, judicial administration, human rights advocacy, and public service. Her track record, he added, shows she is well prepared for the responsibilities of the Bench.

Governor Alia detailed the new judge’s experience, pointing to her previous roles at African Bank Plc, the National Human Rights Commission, and as Deputy Chief Registrar and Admiralty Marshal of the Federal High Court. He said this wealth of experience attests to her competence and readiness to serve.

With Justice Ende’s appointment, the number of judges in Benue State rises from 32 to 33. The governor also noted that female judges now increase from 13 to 14. He described this as proof of his administration’s commitment to inclusivity, equal opportunity, and advancing women in leadership positions.

Reaffirming his “HE for SHE” philosophy, Alia stressed that sustainable development depends on giving women equal chances to contribute their skills to nation-building. He said the judiciary benefits directly when diversity and representation are prioritized.

The governor charged Justice Ende to uphold the Constitution and carry out her duties with integrity, independence, courage, and fairness. He reminded her that the judiciary remains “the last hope of the common man” and must always protect the rights of citizens.

Alia also appreciated the National Judicial Council, the Judicial Service Commission, and Benue State Judiciary leadership for their role in the appointment process. He assured them of his government’s continued support to strengthen justice delivery and uphold the rule of law, before congratulating Justice Ende and wishing her a successful judicial career.
