Al-Makura Make Case To End Rift Between Catholic Church and Nasarawa State Over Ownership Of Missionary School

Al-Makura-NasarawaNasarawa state Governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura in a concerted effort to end the rift between the state Government and the Catholic church over the ownership of former Saint Augustine College which was later converted to Nasarawa state Polytechnic Lafia has assured the catholic church of her commitment towards resolving the lingering imbroglio.

The Governor stated this when the Arch-Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Lafia, Most Reverend Bishop Ishaya Audu hinted this  yesterday when the catholic church paid the state Governor  a visit at the Government House.

He expressed commitment to partner the Catholic Church to ensure a sustainable peace in the state and for the development of education which is the bedrock of dialogue as a veritable tool for the attainment of harmonious coexistence.

The Governor said the church has an intrinsic role in ensuring the well-being of the society and applauded the effort of the church in bringing everlasting peace to the state.

He said his administration is fashioning out ways to reconstruct and rehabilitate churches destroyed during the communal and ethnic conflict.

The Archbishop who led the delegation expressed support to the administration of Governor Umaru Tanko Al – Makura , Bishop Ishaya Audu said that the emergence of Al – Makura for a second term is the will of God, as he thereby urged all and sundry to rally round the administration.

He applauded Governor Al-Makura for his “availability for the people of all religions and tribes” and challenged him to continue in the same stride for the overall interest of the state.

Audu however called on the governor to extend the payment of WAEC and NECO fees to students in catholic schools insisting they are also indigenes of the state. He also called for grant-aiding of non-government schools in order to enhance the growth of education in the state.
