Aftermath Of The 9th State House Of Assembly Official Swearing-In: Imo People Reacts, Unveils Expectations

So many Imo people mostly political merchants,lawmakers and lover of good governance and effective legislative representations have showered more accolades to the current and newly sworn-in members of the Imo State House of Assembly ably led by the Speaker of House,Rt.Hon.Chiji Collins,member representing Isiala Mbano and his Deputy,Rt.Hon.Okechukwu Onyekanma,amongst other 25 members of the State House.

 

As the 2019 winners of the last elections for the positions of lawmaking in Imo State were sworn-in officially last Thursday,June 13th 2019 to represent their various State Constituencies from across the 27 LGA’s of Imo State,many people especially political moguls in the state have respectively advised them not to behave like rubber stamps as the Legislative Arms of Govt.to the Executive Arms.

 

Speaking to newsmen during their swearing-in ceremony in Owerri,last Thursday,the Hon.Austin Obinna Ojini,who hails from Orlu LGA,and also the 2019 Imo House of Assembly aspirant under APGA,in his words,”I am very happy to witness the successful swearing-in ceremony of all the 27 Imo House of Assembly members. I wish them well but I must let them know that the people (their various constitutes) as expecting to benefit from their legislative input to the growth and development of their constituencies by making laws that would really favour the poor masses”.

 

Hon.Engr Ojini,is the Managing Director at Binotech Integrated Services Ltd., moreso expressively frowned at what he tagged and described as “poor legislative performances” from the immediate past members of the 8th Assembly.

 

“All of you as lawmakers in the state are expected to offer quality representations in the state especially of Orlu State Constituency. Orsu people are looking unto you to serve as a servant-leader. We must always pray for you all. Endeavor to cooperate with the Executive Arm of the Imo State Govt. Make laws that would put foods on the tables of Imo people. Support the growth of our democracy. Fight for the general interest of everyone not for your own selfish interest. Project the dividends of democracy as lawmakers. Shun your personal aggrandizement. As stakeholders,we are ever ready to ready to support you”,Hon.Ojini submitted.

 

Hon.Austin,therefore congratulated and  commended the Imo State Governor,Hon.Emeka Ihedioha,and his Deputy,Rt.Hon.Gerald Irona,and others in the Rebuild Mission led govt.and encourage them to put the State into the right path of development,peace and security of lives and properties of Imolites.

 

“Let the Governor bring-back Imo State to her original glory especially in the area of infrastructural development. I know as a lawmaker,Governor Ihedioha would do well in offering good governance for all inclusive”,Ojini stated.

 

Adding his voice,the former Transition Committee Chairman of Mbaitoli,Hon.Barr.Chris Nwabia,speaking,commended and congratulated the newly sworn-in members of the Imo 9th Assembly and the Imo State Gov.Emeka Ihedioha,even as he advised all the lawmakers to work in synergy with the Executive Arm of Govt.to have a balanced govt.

 

Barr. Nwabia said ” the legislators should be aware of their primary functions as lawmakers and they should also make laws that would benefit the masses. Good laws with general acceptance must be out in place. Laws that would care for the general welfare of the poor people in the rural areas”.

 

The Mbaitoli-born legal luminary,Nwabia,however advised the House Members to also make reasonable laws.

 

Nwabia described the immediate past House Member for Mbaitoli,Hon.Israel Nnataraonye,aka Olugbu,as total failure who during his time did not move any single motion,but called on the current House Member for Mbaitoli,Hon.Barr.Okey Onyekanma,who is now the Deputy Speaker of the 9th House to be a strong voice.

 

“We unanimously voted him into lawmaking because we know his political antecedents,he is up and doing. He should not behave like the immediate past who couldn’t represent his people”,Barr.Nwabia maintained.

 

“The 9th House should stand tall,show and display competence. The 8th House were allegedly hungry. They were used roughly by the immediate past Imo Governor,Rochas Okorocha. Therefore,the 9th House should leave upto expectations. They should uphold integrity. Do not allowed yourselves to be used as rubber stamps and stooges like the immediate past lawmakers. Endeavor to defend your various constituencies. Gov.Ihedioha is a lawmaker,always cooperate with value”,Barr.Nwabia advised.

 

Hon.Chief Martin Anayo Anurukem,from Obibiezina in Owerri North,who is popularly known as ” Enyioha I of Awaka in Owerri North LGA of Imo State,also congratulated the whole State House of Assembly members for their recent political unpliftment,even as he encouraged them to work harder by making laws that would be favorite to the people.

 

Moreso,Chief Francise Nnaji,from Njaba LGA,expressed optimism that the 9th House members would definitely do well in lawmaking.

 

He commended all the members of the 8th House of Assembly and the immediate past Executive Governor,Chief Rochas Okorocha,which according to him,tried his best especially in the area of his free education,security,industrialization and youth empowerment but called on Governor Emeka Ihedioha to improve on the above mentioned agendas of the past administration.

 

Chief Nnaji,further condemned the ongoing social vices in the state, mostly the internet fraud amongst the youths but appealed to the govt.to sit up on the fight against crime and corruption.

 

He advised the re-elected House member for Njaba,Hon.Amb.Mrs.Uju Onwudiwe,for her legislative prowess but advised her not to allow victory overwhelm her lawmaking experience,even as he tipped her for the position as the 2023 House of Reps.member.

 

Also,Deacon Emmanuel Nwankwo,from Aboh Mbaise,in solidarity commended all the 9th House of Assembly members especially the Speaker,Rt.Hon.Chiji Chimezie Collins,who he described as his friend and associate known over 20 years. He further described his speakership position as round peg in a round hole with multiple leadership experiences.

 

According to Deacon Nwankwo,”Dr.Chiji Collins as the Speaker would assist Gov.Ihedioha to rebuild the State.

 

“The Speaker is a good man,very honest and God-fearing,down to earth,a key player and must deliver”,Deacon Emma said.

 

To Imo youths,Deacon Nwankwo,charged them to be focus and never allow themselves to be used by politicians.

 

Meanwhile,a very vibrant young Imo political mogul,Hon.Comr.Onyemauche Etonyema,from Akabo in Ikeduru LGA of Imo State,in his words,advised all the members of the 9th House of Assembly make sure that they serve Imolites with all their hearts,so as to make quality laws for the interest of the people with passion.

 

“Do not allow the past mistakes and the wrongs of the immediate past Imo lawmakers to re-occur,cooperate with the executive arm,correct each other and check-mate the executive at all times”,Hon.Etonyema advised.

 

Hon.Onyemauche,further advised the lawmakers not to allow witch-hunting to distract them. Let your core value be more stronger than your political difference or the ideological difference,and never be distracted but remain focus and committed in making laws for the growth of the entire Imo people.

 

Finally,a very reputable Imolite who also advised the House members,High Chief Charles Nwokeji,from Mgbidi in Oru-West LGA and the Chief Executive Officer,CEO of Group of Companies,expressively congratulated all the State House members and charged them to duties.

 

Chief Nwokeji,in furtherance congratulated Gov.Emeka Ihedioha and all those newly appointed to serve in the Rebuild Mission,even as he enjoined them to bring back Imo State to the glory of God.
