Address Issues That Led To The Closure of Courts For Two Months—SAN Tells Governors

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Edward Asheikaa has appealed to the Governors of the thirty-six States and critical stakeholders in the country to address issues that led to the closure of courts for two months.

Edward said the call became imperative so as to avert another shut down by the courts, Commending the initiative for commencing an alternative sitting in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.

He further explained that they would support the establishment of an alternative Court of Appeal in Nasarawa State.

During the first sitting of the Court of Appeal on Monday in Lafia, The Presiding Judge, Justice Ignatius Agube said they  have the approval of the President of the Court of Appeal in the country to hold the alternative sittings.

Adding that the decision of the court to sit in Lafia was meant at ensuring the quick dispensation of justice and assisting litigants and Counsels from Lafia who had filed appeals in Benue State.

The Presiding Judge averred that the alternate sitting which commenced  on Monday, July 5, would last for two weeks before the 2021 legal year.

To ensure the smooth operation of the Court, Justice  Agube called on litigants and Counsels alike  to corporate, and assuring them of their determination to ensure justice.

Nasarawa State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Abdulkarim Kana expressed gratitude to the Judge for deciding to share sitting between the two states.

He stated that  the state  government on her part would provide the necessary logistics in terms of accommodations and courtroom for their smooth sitting.

He also appealed that the sitting in the States should be on an equal basis, Calling the concerned  authority to establish a Court of Appeal in Nasarawa State.
