ADC Inaugurates Interim Leadership In Adamawa Amid Splinter Group Dispute

In its bid to reposition the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the party to beat ahead of the 2027 general elections, the party has inaugurated its interim leadership in Adamawa State amid the existence of a splinter group.

Speaking during the inauguration, the North East Zonal Vice Chairman of the party, Mr. Babachir Lawal, affirmed the legitimacy of the newly inaugurated leadership, emphasizing that due process was followed in line with the party’s constitution.

Lawal, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, explained that the National Working Committee (NWC) had approved the new structure, warning that the ADC would not condone acts of indiscipline or defiance.

“The new leadership is the substantive one because due diligence has been followed in accordance with the constitution of the party,” Lawal stated.

“The National Chairman of the party, Sen. David Mark, has assured that the ADC will be governed strictly according to constitutional provisions. Anyone who disagrees with that has no place in this party,” he added.

Lawal urged members to uphold peace and unity within the party, stressing that political disagreements should not undermine collective progress.

“Every politician is entitled to be insulted — it is our right — but it should not affect the way we behave. Let us cooperate with the new committee, which was selected based on the guidelines designed by the founding fathers of the ADC before the merger. This process has been authenticated and approved by the National Working Committee,” he said.

He expressed confidence that the inauguration was both legal and necessary, noting that the new structure would serve as the instrument to govern the party in Adamawa State.

In his acceptance speech, the newly inaugurated State Chairman, Hon. Sadiq Dasin, described his emergence as “a child of necessity,” noting that it followed repeated but unsuccessful efforts to reconcile the Shehu Yohanna and Mustapha Arabi factions.

Dasin pledged to restore unity and inclusiveness within the party, assuring that women and youth would play a pivotal role in shaping the ADC’s future direction.

“Sixty percent of elective positions in the coming congresses will be reserved for women and youth in recognition of their strategic importance to the success of the party,” he announced.

He further promised to ensure transparent and credible congresses across wards and local government areas in Adamawa.

Those inaugurated at the event include former Governor of Adamawa State, Senator Umar Bindow, Senator Ishaku Abbo, and Senator Abdul-Aziz Nyako
