Belmont Dogo, Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa, has urged newly inaugurated Local Government Caretaker Committee members to promote unity and strengthen the party at the grassroots.
Dogo made the call during the inauguration of caretaker committees for the 21 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.
The event featured the oath-taking of 21 chairmen, 21 secretaries and three ex-officio members from each LGA, bringing the total to 105 officials.
He said the appointments reflected the confidence of the party leadership in the integrity, loyalty and capacity of the members to deliver on their mandates.
“Your selection is not by accident but a demonstration of the confidence the party leadership has in your integrity, commitment and capacity to serve faithfully at the grassroots level.
“The task before you is very important. The strength of any political party lies in its structure at the grassroots.
“As LG caretaker committee members, you represent the engine room of the party in your respective areas.
“Your roles in mobilising members, maintaining unity among stakeholders and strengthening the party structure cannot be overemphasised,” Dogo said.
He tasked the committee members with mobilising members, fostering unity among stakeholders and rebuilding the party’s structure across wards and local governments.
The chairman also urged them to discharge their responsibilities with dedication, transparency and fairness, while avoiding actions capable of creating division within the party.
Dogo expressed optimism that with discipline, focus and collective efforts, the party would consolidate its position and achieve greater success in future elections.
In his remark, Daniel Kamsobi, an aspirant for Ganye Local Government chairman, said the inauguration marked the beginning of renewed commitment to reposition the party at the grassroots.
Kamsobi said the executives had taken the oath of office and were ready to return to their respective LGAs to work diligently for the party.
Quoting Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri, he said leadership was not a privilege but a responsibility, urging members to work as a team.
He expressed confidence that the PDP would emerge victorious in future elections, noting that the party remained strong despite political developments since 1999.
Also speaking, Susan Zirra, PDP Women Leader in the state, said the party remained vibrant and urged members to remain steadfast.
Zirra encouraged leaders to intensify mobilisation efforts, particularly among women, by engaging communities at ward and household levels ahead of the party’s forthcoming convention.
