Adamawa Lawmakers Want State Government To Declare Flood Affected Areas As Disaster Zone

The Adamawa state lawmakers has during the Monday’s plenary session want the state government to declare flood affected areas as disaster zone.

The chairman house committee on Internally Displaced persons (IDPs) who is the member representing Hong constituency, Hassan Mamman Barguma has presented the interim verbal report on a mandate to visit flood affected areas in Mayo Belwa and Verre constituencies.

Presenting the report, Hassan said: “The flood has rendered about eighty five percent of the residents homeless and many farmlands washed away, hence the need for the state government to declared the areas affected as disaster zone provide safer areas for the victims.”

After deliberation on the issue by the lawmakers the speaker Kabiru Mijinyawa who presided over the plenary session has directed the clerk of the house to communicate the resolution the appropriate authorities for emergency assistance.

Also a Bill for a Law to establish Adamawa state mass education board has scaled through third reading on the floor of the house.

The bill which is sponsored by the majority leader of the house and member representing Mayo Belwa constituency Mahmud Musa kallamu if passed into Law will enable the state government establish the state mass education board.

After deliberation on the Bill speaker Kabiru Mijinyawa directed the clerk of the house to prepare a clean copy of the Bill to the Executive arm for Governor’s ascent.

Also, the house has also adopted the report of the house committee on judiciary on a Bill for a law to amend area court’s edict nineteen eight so as to allow appeals from area court direct to Sharia court of appeal, customary court of appeals and cases without going upper Area court.

Presenting the report of by the chairman of the committee who is the member representing Song constituency, Safiyanu Aliyu Aminu Muleng said: “according to  the findings of the committee appeals from Area Courts, in all cases goes to upper area court and if Area Courts law is amended as proposed, it will enhance flow of cases to the Sharia court of appeals of the state among others.”

The committee also recommended that the Bill if passed into law Will make Customary court of appeals and Sharia court of appeals a vibrant judicial institution to dispense justice to the litigants in professional manner and make area court judges sit up in the discharge of their judicial functions.
