Adamawa state government has commenced distribution of relief materials to 4000 households affected by the recent flood in the state
The relief materials which is donated by the Adamawa government, Nigeria’s first lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, North East Development Commission (NEDC) and National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), is simultaneously distributed to beneficiaries at Digital Centre, Ahmadu Ribadu, Lamido Zubairu and Aliyu Mustapha College in Yola-South local government area.
The distribution was flagged off by Kaletupwa Farauta, the state Deputy Governor and a professor, she cautioned beneficiaries against sales of the assorted materials
Farauta noted that government would deploy monitoring team to ensure no item is sold or seen in any shop across the state.
She further stressed that the items are meant for family’s use to cushion the effects of the devastating effects.
“Government will not take it easy with any person selling the relief items
She asked the beneficiaries to take advantage of the rainy season and plant crops to support their livelihood.
The deputy governor, reiterated government commitments to improving the plight of the people of the state.
Earlier, the government , through the State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA) has stepped up its response to flood victims by door-to-door distribution of relief collection tickets in the affected flood areas Shagari, Yolde Pate, Modire, and surrounding communities.
The tickets was to enable verified victims to access food items, bedding, clothing, and other essentials provided by the government as part of its ongoing humanitarian support.
About 29 people in total had died as a result of the flood.
Items distributed includes bags of rice, maize, cartoons of spaghetti, seasoning cubes, tomato paste, kegs of vegetables oil and bags of iodized salt
Other non food items shared were plastic cups, plastic spoons, children wears, nylon mats, blankets and mattresses among others.
