ipman-profile3The factional scribe of Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) Adamawa state Ibrahim Buba Gayus has accused the former National chairman of the body Alhaji Aminu Andulkadir Mbamba as the architect of the crisis rocking the union in the country.

Gayus who made the disclosure in Yola during a session with journalists yesterday noted that the arbitrary and unilateral change of the union’s constitution by Mbamba to extend his tenure led to the current imbroglio in the union.

He said Mbamba deemed it fit to change the constitution which allows him to get tenure elongation due to the mortal fear he reserves that if an independent candidate emerges president his atrocities will be unearthed.

“The union drafted its constitution in 1997 but the past president Abdulkadir Aminu Mbamba changed it without the consent of the members to suit his personal interest of extending his tenure” he said.

Gayus maintained that Mbamba was not even in contention for the presidency of the union as Falande was the preferred candidate but due to the fact that Falande lacked the required educational capacity to run the union, a gentleman’s agreement was arranged within the northern caucus which resulted in the emergence of Mbamba as the president.

He noted that instead of Mbamba to reciprocate the gesture with good leadership, he changed the constitution of the union at the tail end of his leadership to give him the vintage of another term of office

Gayus added that Lawson Obasi who was also in the race for the presidency of the union filed a suit before a Federal High Court Port Harcourt which judgement ended the illegal tenure of Mbamba and reinstated Obasi as the National president of the union.

“The court did not only reaffirm Lawson Obasi as the National President, but it quashed the illegal constitutional amendment that Mbamba conjured and reaffirmed the 1997 constitution,” he said.

He added that when Obasi assumes leadership of the union, he dissolved the unit leadership throughout the country and appointed caretaker committees.

“Obasi appointed us as the caretaker committee of Yola depot and we served for three months following which he extended our tenure for another three months. But within the second lap, we conducted an executive election under the supervision of the National body and observed by all security operatives and journalists.

“This made us the authentic Unit Executives of Yola Depot,” he concluded.
