Adamawa Govt Approves N1 Billion For Pension Arrears

Mr Samson Almuru, the Adamawa State branch chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), has commended the state government for approving N1 billion as pension arrears.

Almuru revealed this to our correspondent in Yola that the N1 billion approved by the state from the Paris Club refund was a welcome development that would bring succor to the pensioners.

“I got the information over the weekend that the state government had approved N1 billion as pension arrears, we are happy to hear that.

“We hope that the about 2,500 retirees from the local governments in the state who had been cleared for many months and were yet to start enjoying their pensions would also benefit from the fund,” Almuru said.

The Chief of staff to the state Government House, Alhaji Abdulrahman Abba-Jimeta and who is the chairman of the State Committee for the Payment of Outstanding Salary Liabilities from Paris Club refund, had confirmed the approval of N1 billion by Gov. Muhammadu Jibrilla for the payment of pension arrears to pensioners from the state and local governments.

Abba-Jimeta said that the committee had directed officials of the state and local government pension boards to come forward with their verified lists of pensioners including the arrears involved for payment.
