Adamawa Ex-Governor, Boni Haruna Urges Bindow To Address Workers Plight

Former Gov. Boni Haruna of Adamawa on Sunday advised Gov. Jibrilla Bindow, the current governor of the state to give priority to the plight of civil servants in the state.

This was contained in a statement signed by Mr Martins Dickson, Special Assistant to the Adamawa State Governor on Press and Media Affairs and made available to the newsmen in Yola.

Haruna, who is also the immediate past Minister of Youth Development, decried injustice meted against civil servants by the immediate past administrations in the state.

According to him, the state had more earnings from the Federation Account in the past than the present government, and still could not pay the workers their basic entitlement for all these years.

The ex-Governor advised the present administration to equally pay attention to workers’ yearly salary increment as well as to implement their promotions.

He also urged the governor to upgrade and ensure the payment and the gratuity of retired civil servants as at when due.

He commended the present administration in the state for paying three years arrears of worker’s Leave and Transport Grant (LTG).

It will be recalled that the state government had accessed N9.5 Billion as part of its bailout found from the central bank to clear a backlog of workers entitlement been owed by the previous administrations in the state.

“Governance is not only about providing infrastructure but also about taking care of the welfare of the people including the workers who are key to implementing programs and policies of the government.

“Such gesture is very critical in a state like Adamawa since it does not have many industries and the state’s economy relies solely on civil servants.

“As a former Governor of the state, I understands the critical areas that requires urgent and adequate attention, and I can state categorically that Governor Jibrilla Bindow has gotten it right thus far.’’

Haruna advised the governor to focus on bringing development in the state as well as to ensuring that the life of the people is changed for the better.

According to him, what is important now is not party politics but how Governments could better the living standard of the people.

He also commended the Governor for flagging off massive road constructions across the twin cities of Jimeta and Yola.

He added  that since he left office, no Government had sought to build on his legacies like the present governor.

He therefore called on the people of Adamawa to support the administration of the present Government to achieve its vision of transforming.
