Al-Makura Releases N300 million As Gratuities And Death Benefits To 305 Retirees

Nasarawa state governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura has approved the release of N300m for the payment of gratuities and death benefits to retirees and family of deceased officers in the state public service.

The Head of Service, Thomas Ari Ogiri stated this while briefing Journalists, the Head of Service said the N300m was from the Paris/London club refund.

Ogiri further affirmed the money was meant to alleviate the pains and suffering of retirees who put in their best for the state.

The Head of Service asserted that the money is to settle backlog of gratuities and death benefits, he added.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the N300, 000,000.00 is sourced from the Paris club remittance that accrued to the state and made possible as a result of His Excellency’s prudent management of scarce resources.

The Head of Service listed the beneficiaries to include widows and widowers, the sick and aged, people living with disabilities,

“To ensure the success of the exercise, therefore, a committee consisting of two teams has been constituted to commence payment in cheques.

“All state beneficiaries are expected to check for their names at the notice board of office of the Head of Service”.

“His Excellency’s magnanimity may not be a routine thing, but he has assured that the gesture will be once on quarterly basis to alleviate the hardship faced by our retired veterans whose service to our state is unquantifiable, urging workers to be patient while government looks into their welfare.

From the 305 retirees, 118 were confirmed death.
