30, 672 Households Captured For N5, 000 Monthly Stipend In Plateau  – National Social Safety Net Programme

At least no fewer than 30, 672 households in six out of 17 Local Government Areas of Plateau state have been captured to benefit soon from the Federal Government program of empowerment of pregnant women ,old aged and vulnerable people in the society  as they would  be receiving  N5, 000 monthly stipends.

The National Coordinator, National Social Safety Net Programme, Mr Apera Iorwa stated this during an interactive session with stakeholders at Plateau State Community and Social Development Agency (CSDA) in Jos .

Mr Iowa further explained that the 30, 672 households were made up of 77, 735 individuals – 35, 633 males and 42, 102 females who were captured in Plateau state waiting to start receiving the Federal Government intervention program.

He said, “So far in the six local governments (in Plateau state) that we have started the capturing, we enumerated 30, 672 households which made up of about 77, 735 individuals, we captured households and each households with families you have husband, wife and the children.

“We have about 35, 633 males, 42, 102 females and out of these figures about 5, 403 were people living with disabilities.” He said.

Benue/Plateau Chronicle gathered that the six local governments that were captured so far included Bassa, Bokkos, Jos East, Kanke, Langtang North and Wase.

Mr Iowa assured that the selection process of capturing the household was transparent.

He said, “We captured the households through a very transparent process, we called it a community targeting process, it was a process where the community people sit and identified the poor and vulnerable people among themselves. It is from that we registered them into the social service registers.”

Iorwa said the meeting with the teams and staff of both CSDA is to give feedback accountability to the people of Nigeria, we are making a huge progress plan to be in every community in Nigeria so Plateau state is the first to be capture amongst the LGAs which is consider as pilot state in designing the programs to take off .

According to him, the state coordinator has done credibly well in conducting training to 18 persons in 11 LGAs who were deploy to the field for data capturing.

He advised that the capturing households would be done through transparent process were the community themselves will recommend the vulnerability and they sitdown and identify the less privilege who are group into 3 of poor vulnerable, pregnant woman and aged who can’t afford healthcare delivery.

Iorwa emphasized that the states which had challenges of crises and are living in IDPs camps shall be given topmost priority towards reducing poverty ,also portable drinking water, roads network ,healthcare and conditions of the people.

He promised to partner with NTA College Jos or other institutions for capacity training to protect media practitioners which is a global strategic plan of pulling poverty .

The state coordinator ,Dr S Hamza said Plateau state is one of the fortunate state to commence the implementation of the core responsibility of value change program of empowerment of pregnant women ,old  aged nursing mothers by engaging and mobilizing people to benefits.

She said the  program had receive overwhelming support were people are showing interest to join the other vulnerable people in rural areas.

Dr Mrs Hamza reiterated that the capturing households including the internally Displaced Persons are the main target to pullout poverty.
