29th Qur’an Competition Opens In Jos By Yakubu Busari,Jos

The 29th edition of the Annual Qur’an Competition Plateau State Chapter had opened in Jos, with a call on Muslims to commit themselves in fervent prayer and repentance before Allah, to bring an end the insurgency bedevilling the country.

The call was made by the Chairman of the occasion Sheikh Musa Muhammad Inuwa, who is also the Chief Imam of Abuja National Mosque, in his welcoming address held yesterday, at the Conference hall of the Jos Central Mosque.

According to him People should encourage their children or wards to inculcate the true norms, tenets and values of Islam and the teachings of the Qur’an.

“We should all pray and repent to Allah, for his mercies, and to also bring to an end the difficult situations in the country,” he said. “We should fear Allah and do things rightly.”

Sheikh Musa admonished Muslims to use their wealth and energy in promoting the noble cause of the Qur’an recitation competition and all other cause of Islam.

State Coordinator of the NQRCC, Sheikh Mukhtar Adam, said the this year’s competition has received a boost in terms of participation, stressed that eleven Local Government Areas out of seventeen that there has been in state are participating.

“Previously only eight are participating, but now eleven are, with 178 contestants to participate in the competition,” he added.

Sheikh Adam lamented that the State Committee is has been depending on individual donation and supports to embark on the competition.

He said: “This year the competition is holding at Edo State, and we have budgeted over N 7m for the running of the exercise; however we are yet to realize reasonable amount.”

The State Competition will last for one week, end next Sunday.

According to Sheikh Adam, the National Event will commence on the 8 of January, to last for one week.

The sum of N2.3 Million was realised at the opening ceremony, with a giant donation from a renowned Jos based philanthropist Muhammad Adam Alkali, making the cash donation of Two Millions Naira to the Committee.
